From the cool, fresh air, to the sounds of exotic birds, the cloud-shrouded Matka canyon is a treat for the senses. The crown jewel of Matka is the Vrelo Cave, which harbors the deepest underground lake in the Balkans, and potentially, the world. Albanian/Nat Kosovo refugees arriving in Macedonia have told fresh stories of how Serb paramilitaries have continued to attack ethnic Albanian villages. A spokesman for the U-N refugee organisation said he had heard of some 56 deaths in a three day period near the southern Kosovo town of Urosevac. Meanwhile, the influx of refugees into Macedonia continued on Sunday. After the long trek from their homes this group finally made it to the Macedonian border near Malina. The last obstacle - a steep, muddy hill as they crossed to safety. The group of around 200 refugees had endured a three-day trek across the mountains to the relative calm of Macedonia. The refugees, mainly women, children and the elderly, were all from the village of Serijezi. They were met at the bo...

Operations concentrated around the northern village of Vaksince, where rebels were believed to be using civilians as human shields, spokesman Gjordji Trendafilov said. The army operations, which resumed at 0800 local time (0600 GMT) were "selective, and we are trying to destroy the legitimate objects of the terrorists," such as command posts and sniper nests, Trendafilov said. The offensive also targeted the villages of Slupcane and Lipkovo, with some clashes in other villages, an army spokesman told The Associated Press. The Macedonian army used tanks, heavy machine gun fire and a helicopter gunship to shell positions in Vaksince and Slupcane, about 25 kilometres (15 miles) north of Skopje. Media in Belgrade and Kosovo reported two civilians killed in the fighting in Vaksince. They also reported at least one person wounded in the area. The reports could not immediately be confirmed. Government forces had moved into action on Thursday, just hours after two soldiers were killed and a third reportedly kidnapped in a rebel ambush. Last weekend, eight soldiers died in another ambush. No casualties were reported among Macedonian soldiers in the largest military action since fighting between the rebels and the government subsided in late March. Ethnic Albanians comprise at least one-third of Macedonia's two (M) million people. They say they are treated as second-class citizens and demand that the Macedonian constitution be rewritten to upgrade their minority position to equal status with the majority Slavs. The government refuses, arguing it would lead to a de facto division of the former Yugoslav republic. Ethnic Albanian rebels and the Macedonian government announced ceasefires on Monday, a day after the rebels threatened to train their artillery on airports, police stations and other targets in Macedonia's cities. The government said it hopes to use the lull in the fighting to allow food to reach thousands of civilians in villages battered by fighting and alleviate water shortages in Kumanovo, where rebels took control of the city's reservoir more than a week ago, leaving its 100,000 residents without water. Hours after the government announced its ceasefire, the rebels released a statement saying they would hold their fire for 24 hours until 2 p-m local time Tuesday (8 a-m EDT Tuesday). Still, isolated exchanges of gunfire occurred just hours after the ceasefires were announced. Four policemen were wounded, one critically, just outside the second-largest city, Tetovo, late on Monday, police sources told The Associated Press. The militants began their insurgency in February and say they are fighting for greater rights for ethnic Albanians, who make up a quarter to a third of Macedonia's 2 (m) million people. The government contends the rebels are separatists and launched an offensive to drive them from the northern villages where they are based. Natural Sound Some five-thousand pro-Serb demonstrators took to the streets of Skopje on Sunday to show their contempt for the continued NATO airstrikes against Yugoslavia. They waved flags and shouted slogans comparing U-S President Bill Clinton and NATO to Nazi Germany. While the Macedonian government has supported NATO, the demonstrations show that public opinion is not as steadfast. Thousands of Serb sympathisers turned out for Sunday's demonstration. They held up pictures of the Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic and nearly everyone carried the Yugoslav target protest symbol. They chanted anti-NATO slogans and showed the three-finger victory sign used by the Serbs. Among the protesters were young and old - for some, it was a family day out. There were also a number of war veterans who turned out to give their support. The Macedonian government has been firm in its support of NATO throughout the campaign which began in March. The country has also been instrumental in helping absorb the flood of ethnic Albanian refugees streaming out of Kosovo looking for shelter. But demonstrations like this show there is a strong movement against the air strikes within Macedonia. Recent mistakes, such as Friday's bombing of the Chinese embassy, are only likely to strengthen opposition to the NATO action. The demonstration was quelled for about 15 seconds at one point, when an organiser asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims of the bombing. It then continued with the singing of the Macedonian and Yugoslav anthems. This was the first major anti-NATO rally in about two weeks. It took place without incident. Things to See and Do in Ohrid, Macedonia ►Subscribe and click the bell to enable notifications for my new videos: http://bit.ly/DBH-SUB ►Read my blog posts: http://davidsbeenhere.com/category/blog/ In this episode, David takes us with him as he checks out the top things to see and do in Ohrid, Macedonia – a city at the center of Lake Ohrid tourism. David starts with what to see in the city of Ohrid. He begins in the Old Town, which is home to several beautiful buildings like the historic Robevci House. He then makes his way up the hill to see some of Ohrid’s historical monuments. First up is St. Jovan de Kaneo, a Byzantine-style church perched above the shore of Lake Ohrid. This is one of the most photographed places in Macedonia. Another beautiful church to check out is St. Clement Church. David’s guide Zivka gives some background on St. Clement. Then it’s time to head to to Tsar Samuil’s Fortress for amazing views over Lake Ohrid. Samuil was Tsar of the First Bulgarian Empire and best known for defending Bulgaria against Byzantine domination. He eventually moved the capital of the Empire to Ohrid and built one of the greatest strongholds in the Balkans. Today the fortress is a great place for panoramic views of the Lake and the city of Ohrid. Admission is 30 Macedonian denar. Up next: The Roman Theatre. It was built to accommodate 4,000 spectators and was used for gladiatorial battles. Recently it was uncovered and is free to enter. The acoustics here are wonderful! Heading back down the hill David visits one of the most important monuments in Macedonia, the Church of St. Sophia. Again, Zivka chimes in with some more information about the Church. The surviving frescos dates back to the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries. David and the team walk back to the main square of Ohrid to shop for Ohrid’s famous pearls. He introduces us to a man whose family was the first to bring the tradition to Macedonia. The Talev family workshop has been here since 1924. David reminds us that no visit to Ohrid is complete without first taking a boat ride on Lake Ohrid. From here, you’ll get magnificent views of the city and lakeshore. Hire a local captain from the Ohrid Marina for one-hour tour. The next day, David embarks on his first day trip from Ohrid, bringing him south of the city to National Park Galicica. The park separates Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa. It’s a popular with hikers and nature lovers who want to enjoy the clean, fresh air and stunning views of the lakes and towns below. You can also take your own car like David did. A visit to the Monastery of St. Naum and the Black Drim springs is also a fantastic day trip from Ohrid. The monastery is located on a rocky outcrop at the southernmost part of Lake Ohrid near the Albanian border. Inside this cross-shaped church is the tomb of St. Naum. David sees if the local legend is true – you can hear St. Naum’s heartbeat if you put your ear to his tomb… it’s up to you to judge! Once finished seeing St. Naum, David heads down to the riverbank to hire a rowboat to take him to see the crystal clear springs of the Drim River. So that was David’s list of top things to see and do in Ohrid. Definitely one of the highlights of his Macedonia trip and a gorgeous destination to experience in the Balkans. ☆ CONTACT ☆ ↠ Business: david@godandbeauty.com ↠ Questions: https://www.twitter.com/davidsbeenhere ☆ Equipment Used ☆ ↠ Main Camera - http://amzn.to/2nZLPvS ↠ Main Lens - http://amzn.to/2nxLZ1g ↠ Second Lens - http://amzn.to/2o06hN1 ↠ Tripods: http://amzn.to/2oqmBKb ↠ SD Cards: http://amzn.to/2oqsYgf ☆ T-shirts available now ☆ ↠ http://bit.ly/DBH-Shop Production by Carlos de Varona from Chromahouse. http://carlosdevarona.com http://www.chromahouse.com SOCIAL MEDIA: Snapchat: @davidsbeenhere Instagram: https://instagram.com/davidsbeenhere Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/davidsbeenhere1 Blog: http://davidsbeenhere.com/category/blog/

On October 1st my family and I went to Makedonsko Selo (Macedonian Village). It was beautiful. Fresh air, nature and such a wonderful view. You can really learn a lot about Macedonia's tradition and cultural customs. here is also a museum you can visit and if you're tired you can go to the restaurant and have traditional Macedonian food. It is a must-visit! Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/stefan_mitik) Twitter (https://twitter.com/mitikstefan) These are my photos ©

A fresh start to the interview! I said that I'm filming and asking the questions myself, so she turned it into a song! But this was not the only singing she would do! WOW! Her cover really took me by surprise! :) So this is my interview with Jana Burčeska, the Macedonian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv.

They were met at the border by Macedonian Albanians with tractors and blankets, who then escorted them on the last stage of their journey. They'd all come from the village of Serijezi after being ordered out at gunpoint by Serb paramilitaries. The trek had clearly taken its toll. Before making the crossing at Malina, they had hidden in the mountains for a few days, too afraid to continue. The group were taken inland to the safety of Lipkovo. The village has become something of a safe haven for refugees. Last week, a number were brought here to avoid Serb attacks on refugees from across the border. These latest refugees were taken to the impromptu registration centre set up at the village mosque. There they were given shelter and finally allowed to rest. But there is no peace of mind for the refugees. The time to reflect only brings back memories of how they were violently thrown out of their homes by the Serbs. SOUNDBITE: (Albanian) "There were people wounded, there were people killed, they (the Serbs) just walked in and said 'you have to go'." SUPER CAPTION: Shukrie Nuha, Refugee Six children had died en route and had to be buried by the roadside. SOUNDBITE: (Albanian) "I have seen children sick and ill. Some of them died and we buried them along the way. We had to go because our village was surrounded." SUPER CAPTION: Refugee While they are all now safe, their future is far from certain. Refugee camps like this one at Blace are full to bursting point with more on the way. A further 2-thousand refugees are expected by train and bus on Sunday. With each new refugee comes fresh evidence of the atrocities being committed across the border. A spokesman from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (U-N-H-C-R) said he'd been told of massacres in southern Kosovo. SOUNDBITE: (English) "People say that last Sunday paramilitaries, masked men with beards entered the village, they rounded up people house to house. They put them out on the street. In one village Hallac Ivogel, 21 people were killed by these men. The refugees said they separated the population into about 3 groups then they took about more than twenty people out into a ravine outside the village, they robbed them, then opened fire killing 11 people. The others scattered but apparently they were hunted down and ten more people were found shot dead in their homes including a 14 year old girl. These masked paramilitaries then moved on to an adjacent village approximately 200 metres away called Ribar Ivogel. There they allegedly killed another 16 or 19 people including four or five women who had been raped before they were killed." SUPER CAPTION: Ron Redmond, U-N High Commission for Refugees In all, 56 people are claimed to have been killed. All the attacks were on villages north of the Kosovo town of Urosevac and happened between April 16-18.
